The kitchen is the most important area in a restaurant, even in a hotel’s restaurant. Unfortunately, this is also the area where things can get really cluttered especially during the busiest days. Therefore, it is the Stewarding Department’s responsibility to set some guidelines when it comes to cleaning the kitchen. The department should establish some steps on how to eliminate kitchen clutter.
Easy Steps on How to Fix Kitchen Clutter
- Sort things out and toss out equipment and gadgets that you do not use. No, you do not have to actually literally toss them out of course, but it is important that you do not keep in the kitchen things that are not really essential to the day-to-day functioning of the restaurant’s kitchen. Since only the chefs or cooks know what they use or do not use, you might want to check with the head chef, so you would know what you can keep or what you should toss out. You might want to toss out old gadgets. You can donate the things you do not use or need. You can put in storage things that are hardly used.
- Organize and plan out the storage properly. Work with the right person in the kitchen to create an inventory, so you will know exactly where to place things once they are cleaned. There should be proper storage for kitchen gadgets and equipment. This way, you will be able to save space and time.
- Make sure that there is enough storage space. Ideally, the kitchen should have enough cabinets. There should be vertical dividers for cookie sheets and cake pans. Often, a restaurant’s kitchen will have a lot of cabinets. You just have to make sure that if you are cleaning the kitchen, you will place kitchen items in the right cabinets.
- Make sure that the counter space is free of appliances and gadgets. Nowadays, appliances are mounted on cabinets to free up counter spaces. This is very important in restaurants where most of the cooking preparations are done in counters. If you are going to clean the kitchen appliances, make sure that you do not leave in counters after you have finished cleaning them.
- Clear out the junk drawer. A restaurant should not have a junk drawer. Make sure that you work with the kitchen staff, so that you will know exactly where to place every item in the kitchen.
The kitchen is the most important part of any restaurant. It is important that kitchen clutter is minimized or eliminated, so that chefs and cooks will be able to work properly and think clearly. It is the stewarding department to know how to eliminate kitchen clutter.
